$1000 for the best new/recent original photograph of the theme
$500 for the best old/historic photograph of the theme

The Kings Cross Photography Prize is an exciting project run by the Kings Cross Arts Guild. This is its second year of exhibition. Last years Competition was titled Images of the Cross. The Guild has a history of supporting artists in particular local artists.
This year photographer/curator Sandy Edwards of ARTHERE is Guest Curator.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
DUE DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 6pm Friday, September 23, 2011.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA
Entries must match requirements of the brief as follows:
What is the essence of Kings Cross as a suburb and as a famous and infamous Sydney location? What reflects its history? What is the mix of people and cultures? We are looking for portraits of significant Kings Cross residents and identities including down to earth locals who contribute by making it a special place. We also seek images of landmarks, unique places and elements associated with Kings Cross and which contribute to its complex character.
There are two categories of entries:
(1) New/Recent photographs on this year's theme; and
(2) Old/Historic photographs from within your family collection on this year's theme.
YOU MAY SUBMIT TWO IMAGES.
FEE: $30.00 (for one or two images). Please deposit $30 into the following bank account. Name your deposit KX Photo Prize and include your name.

WORDS You are required to write 100 words about the subject of each photograph that you submit. These words will establish the significance of your choice of subject and may be included in the exhibition and as publicity.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Submit by email a good quality JPEG of each image at 72dpi in size. The size of the image should be 2400 on the longest side. The resolution should ensure that your image will print to approx. A1 size of 70 x 48cm. If you need any assistance with quality please contact Sandy Edwards on sandy@arthere.com.au.
Email the JPEGs to Curator Sandy Edwards at sandy@arthere.com.au. Include your name and phone number in the email. Add your name at the beginning of the filename. You will receive a receipt of the entry to confirm its arrival.

SELECTION
Images will be selected for inclusion in the exhibition on the following criteria.
How well they illustrate the theme
Strong images
Excellent technical quality which will assure excellent print quality
REQUIREMENTS FOR PRINTING
Once selected for exhibition we will arrange to print your image at approx. A1 with a 5 10cm white border for pinning it to the wall. Works will be printed by Digital Print and Copy Service at COFA. The cost to you will be $45 for each selected image. This will ensure a fabulous looking exhibition that is printed to sit together and be seen as a whole. If you want to print your own work please contact Sandy Edwards to find out the preferred paper stock.
DELIVERY OF PRINTS
Please deliver by 5pm October 3, 2011 to the Mercure Sydney Potts Point Reception desk. Please clearly mark the package Kings Cross Photography Competition and Prize Selected work.
EXHIBITION VENUE
Mercure Sydney Potts Point Hotel (Victoria Street above Kings Cross station), Level 2 Reception area and in the Restaurant and hallways.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF PRIZE
Will take place at the opening on Wednesday October 5 at 7.30pm. The Opening times are 6.30 to 9pm. Please join us for a drink.
STORY TELLING EVENT
On Sunday October 16 at 3pm-5pm there will be a storytelling event on the deck at the Mercure Sydney Potts Point, Level 2. Compered by Mandy Sayer and Louis Nowra, this is an opportunity to hear the stories behind the photographs, being told by either the subjects of the photographs or the photographers, or interested and informed others.
