Visit: www.pureindependentpictures.com KINGS CROSS PHOTOGRAPHY PRIZE 2011 Character of the Cross: People and Place / Past and Present Exhibition Dates: October 523 2011 Entries due: Friday 23 September, 6pm, by email The Kings Cross Photography Prize is an exciting project run by the Kings Cross Arts Guild. This is its second year of exhibition. Last years Competition was titled Images of the Cross. The Guild has a history of supporting artists in particular local artists. This year photographer/curator Sandy Edwards of ARTHERE is Guest Curator. Click here for full details CROSS PROJECTIONS 2011 Now in its 9th screening season, this community run event Cross Projections is a sell out photographic event held at the Royal Australian Institute of Architects theatre, Tusculum, in Potts Point, Sydney. Cross Projections is a multimedia, cinematic screening of sixteen photographers personal essays. Their work practice encompasses social documentary and fine art photography, photojournalism, teaching, critique and exhibition. Cross Projections 2011 is screening 6th, 7th and 8th October 2011. POETRY AND SPOKEN WORD AT THE KINGS CROSS ORGANIC MARKETS One Saturday a month, John August and Christian Carter (of Garden Games) host Kings Cross Poets at the Kings Cross Organic Markets, next to the el-Alamein fountain. The sessions are normally 10.30-11 and 12.00-12.30 with "Speaker's corner" from 1.00-1.30. If you'd like to get involved, contact John August at 0419 683 353 or johna@babel.apana.org.au THE SYDNEY SHOVE The Sydney Shove is an economics and politics discussion group, which has previously hosted discussions by Wayside Pastor Graham Long and Dr. Marianne Jauncey, Medical Director of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre. It is held monthly, usually on the last Tuesday of the month, at The Sydney Swans Club, 28 Darlinghurst Road Kings Cross 2011. Attendance is free; we ask you purchase something to eat and/or drink. SENIOR CITIZENS ANNUAL LITERARY CONTEST Kings Cross Community Centre hosts this competition in conjunction with Seniors Week to encourage and promote our older and wiser community.
